STAR WARS

Silent Destiny

Episode III
THE EYE OF OBLIVION

After crossing paths with the JUSTICE ACTION NETWORK and the GALACTIC EMPIRE on Dexus-12, Silent Destiny has returned to Kes-Varn’s homeworld of Iridonia.

In the Capital Square marketplace, Kes and Bella Nox are driving Balin Nerr’s cargo to the original buyer, Jaleer Kortu, pursued by agents of the odious Dagos Tull.

Meanwhile, Caster, Kay, Zeva, and R4-J16 take the ship to the city of Wortan, looking for the long-lost Vainglory, last seen in Shiri Torr’s possession….

SESSION 28

Caster:
“So, look, I know the Captain is off on her own and may be in danger… but… ship potentially! Rather exciting.”

GM:
(Wortan is unfamiliar territory to all of you.)

R4-J16:
J16 beeps, spinning his head to indicate the area. Do you know where you’re going or what you’re doing?

Caster:
tilts his head to the side “Don’t sound so skeptical. I’m like a bloodhound when it comes to my property.”

R4-J16:
He beeps, sharply sarcastic. It only took you two months.

GM:
(Caster’s tip was that the Vainglory was docked in bay 607 at the old spaceport)

Caster:
“I have no idea what you just said, so I’m going to take it as a compliment.”

R4-J16:
“Dwoo…….”

Caster:
“Anyway, to docking bay 607. Let’s go find my ship.”

GM:
Key elects to stay with the ship to deal with its fussiness.

R4-J16:
J16 slides over to the nearest computer port and attempts to download a map of the spaceport and any relevant news or alerts.
(Clever 2)

GM:
J16 downloads a map. Much of the news is about the explosion on Dexus-12 and the Empire’s promise of swift reprisal against the Justice Action Network.

R4-J16:
He sorts that out for later and offers the map projection to Zeva and Caster.

GM:
“We can take this alley here,” Zeva says, indicating, “and skirt most of the marketplace.”

R4-J16:
J16 beeps approvingly

Caster:
nods “Good plan. I’d like to scope out the ship first, maybe figure out a thing or three on who currently pretends to own it.”

R4-J16:
Plan confirmed, J16 immediately starts rolling down the indicated alleyway

Caster:
“hey— it’s my ship I should be in the lead!” darts after

GM:
Zeva follows. J16 can roll at quite a clip when he cares to.
While much business and traffic has moved to the more modern spaceport, it’s still quite busy here. The alley keeps you from going through the busy market that’s lived in the center of the port since time out of mindAnd soon you find Bay 607, the bay doors wide open.

R4-J16:
J16 draws to a halt and sticks himself behind some kind of cover (crates, or whatever’s around).

Caster:
crouches near J16

R4-J16:
J16 attempts to scan for people. (Careful 1)

GM:
There’s too many people around here for him to get a good reading. There could be somebody on board? Or not?

R4-J16:
He beeps in frustration.

Caster:
gasps quietly as he looks upon the long lost ship

GM:
Vainglory is there, just as Caster remembers her, none the worse for wear. The loading ramps are closed.

Caster:
Caster is uncharacteristically quiet

R4-J16:
J16 gives him a moment. Then he beeps a prompt. Let’s get a move on?

Caster:
“Yeah, yeah, you’re right.”
“J16, can you get a docking manifest? I want to know who is pretending to captain my ship.”

R4-J16:
J16 beeps affirmatively and rolls over surreptitiously to the Ubiquitous Terminal. He plugs in and downloads whatever he can about the ship that’s available locally — including where it came from and if it has an upcoming destination. But especially for the fake captain. (Clever 4)

GM:
Vainglory is listed as having recently arrived from Alderaan with a cargo of liqueurs. Captain Shiri Torr.

Caster:
swears
“Zeva…. can you do that thing to see if anyone is inside?”

GM:
She nods, and her eyelids flutter shut.

R4-J16:
J16’s receptors zoom in on Zeva curiously

GM:
(Zeva rolls poorly) “Yes. At least one person… I can’t be sure if there’s anyone else.”

Caster:
“Ok, team. I see two plans. One: we try to break in. We know that there is at least one person there who will not be happy about that. Two: we find Shiri and, uh, convince her, to give the ship back. Maybe with money. Maybe with force.”
“I don’t like either of these plans.”

R4-J16:
J16 blorps at the second idea.

GM:
“I don’t think J16 likes the second one,” Zeva offers.

Caster:
“Well, we can wait until it’s less crowded to steal it, but it looks like they’ve offloaded the cargo already. Dunno how long the ship will be here.”

GM:
“Most of these spaceports stay busy around the clock,” Zeva says. (It’s getting dark now, because it was day on the other side of the planet in our last session)

Caster:
“So, there’s no way to do this with less people watching. Lets hope it doesn’t get loud.”
gets up and starts walking towards the Vainglory

R4-J16:
J16 chirps in irritation and follows more slowly.

GM:
Zeva follows him, holding her shock baton against her forearm.

Caster:
(sneaky 5 + 1 = 6)

GM:
(Zeva Sneaky +2)

R4-J16:
(Sneaky 1)

Caster:
upon getting close to the doors, Caster takes a deep breath and does his best to dart around potential camera locations and keep out of window sight lines

GM:
The bay is still quiet as the three of you walk under the ship, out of sight of most of the windows and cameras.

Caster:
whisper “Ten credits says they changed the passcodes…” types the old one in

GM:
The ramp comes down, the pneumatic hiss luxury-quiet.

R4-J16:
J16 chirps in surprise and suspicion.
He chirps suggestively at Caster about the credits.

Caster:
darts up the ramp, pulling his hold-out as he goes

GM:
“Now isn’t the time,” Zeva tells J16 as she charges after Caster.

R4-J16:
J16 chirps mournfully and follows

GM:
The three of you make your way into the turbolift.

Caster:
still quiet “To the bridge. We can hold the ship there.”

GM:
As you make your way around the ring corridor, you hear a thump from the lounge (where the dejarik table is)

Caster:
“Run. Now!”

GM:
Caster runs to the corridor leading to the bridge, but there’s a man standing there, blocking his path. “Oh, good,” Niknik Kuat says. “You’re finally here.”

CUT TO:

Kes and Bella are in a speeder full of plant fibers; they just realized that they’re being followed.
There’s an older speeder gaining on you.

Kes-Varn:
“Please tell me what’s fun in being followed.”

Bella:
“That really depends on who’s doing the following.”

Kes-Varn:
“You’re gonna need to drive. Let’s swap seats.”
(Quick 3)

GM:
(+4 with Bella’s help)
Kes scooches under Bella’s arched behindus, and the speeder vaults over a bump in the road. The Cathar tries to get the vehicle back under control!

Bella:
(clever +3 rolled a 2 = +5)

GM:
The speeder’s trajectory evens out under the slicer’s clever guidance
leaving the Captain free to…?

Bella:
“Some warning next time, love.”

Kes-Varn:
“Aren’t surprises fun for you?” Kes pulls out her blaster rifle, sticks her body half out the window, and starts firing at the speeder following.
(Forceful 3)

GM:
The pursuer veers around in a serpentine fashion, sending other speeders crashing into the force fields along the roadside and taking only superficial damage itself

The driver guns the engine and tries to close the gap
(Bella, beat a +4)

Bella:
(clever 3 rolled a 0)

GM:
The speeder pulls up within a couple of meters from you!

Bella:
Bella pulls every trick she knows about making speeders go more, and lays on the throttle

Kes-Varn:
Kes aims for the driver. (Careful 4)

GM:
The driver swerves as the blaster fire erupts all around him, taking off a tiny piece of his ear but otherwise leaving him unscathed (gain a boost tho)

Bella:
Bella grabs Kes’s shirt, trying to brace her “You really should keep your arms and legs in the ride at all times.” Bella slams on the brakes
(quick 1 rolled a 0 = 1)(takes the boost, for a +3 overall)

GM:
The other driver plows into your rear end (phrasing). His head smacks against the dash with the wet thud of a melon and he slumps forward.
The passenger gets up and opens up on you with an old timey slugthrower.
(both defend vs +4 pls)
A spray of bullets rakes through the speeder!

Kes-Varn:
(Clever 4!)

Bella:
(quick 1 rolled a -1 = 0)
marks 2 stress, takes a mild consequence

GM:
Bella is lucky to come away from the burst with a Lacerated Shoulder
A third person gets out of the back of the other speeder and slides a metallic disc under your vehicle.
Bella GO!

Bella:
pulls the speeder around to try and give Kes a clear set of shots at their attackers
(clever + 3 rolled a 2 = 5)

GM:
Traffic is backing the eff up behind these bad guys, too.
GM:
(vs defense 0) The two bad guys are Flummoxed by the audacity of this maneuver
(success with style, two free boosts)

Kes-Varn:
Kes just starts blasting at them as the speeder turns about. (Forceful 3 – 2 + 2 (boost) + 2 (Cathar Got Your Tongue) = 5?)

GM:
She burns the slugthrower-wielding guy down like a candle. A cheap, gory candle.
Then the disc under the car explodes.

Kes-Varn:
Kes’ war-scream turns into a terror-scream.

GM:
Bella, defend against a +1

Bella:
(quick 1 – 3 = -2)

GM:
She can’t move the speeder in time, leaving it with a Compromised Transmission and getting a little bruised herself
(vs a Defense +1)

Kes-Varn:
She aims for his itty bitty brain. (Careful 3)

GM:
Sometimes you’re the windshield; sometimes you’re the mook who gets hurled into it
He slides down the hood and rolls off
And you see two gray dots on the horizon.

Bella:
pulls the speeder around, slower than she might like thanks to the slipping transmission

GM:
They seem to be flying toward your position

Kes-Varn:
Kes spits in their general direction as the speeder turns and peers over at Bella. “How bad is your shoulder?”

Bella:
“Just a bit of a scratch. I’m more worried about our friends on the horizon.”

Kes-Varn:
Kes pulls out the macrobinoculars from the glove compartment and takes a peek.

GM:
They’re TIE fighters.

Kes-Varn:
“Would it help if I got out and pushed?”

Bella:
“I don’t want them finding us faster because of how dazzling you are.”

Kes-Varn:
“I’ll chalk that up to your blood loss.”

Bella:
“Well, that’ll make it hard to keep thinking it after we patch up this shoulder.”
transmission grinds, but through gritted teeth Bella gets the speeder moving.

GM:
(roll it)

Bella:
(clever 3, rolled a 0 = 3)

GM:
Bella “coaxes” the speeder back to life and sends it puttering back to the docking port still reserved for Silent Destiny.

Bella:
“Glad to see that old trick with break tapping still works on those buckets of bolts.”

Kes-Varn:
“See? this is why we switched seats.” She helps Bella out of the speeder.

Bella:
“I thought it was to give me a show with some of that gunplay.”

Kes-Varn:
“I multitask.”

Bella:
“At that and many other things, I’m sure.”

CUT TO:
Niknik Kuat, grinning from ear to ear as he points a charric at Caster. (I guess he found one after all.)

Caster:
“Oh, man. Partnering with known outlaws. I assumed you were the scum of the earth when I met you, but it turns out, I was right!”

GM:
“You’ve got it all wrong, Novastar. There’s a bounty on this ship, and her Captain. Well, the Captain we took her from. You’re just the way to the bonus.”
“Isn’t that right?” he calls over Caster’s shoulder.

Caster:
blinks “No there isn’t.”

R4-J16:
J16 is puttering around towards the computer room.

GM:
A flush echoes through the hall as the fresher door slides open and the big, scarred ugly face of Marius Krath emerges, followed by the rest of him. “That’s exactly right,” he says with a toothy grin.
